Understanding forest-based value creation in a regional context

Abstract

This chapter explores forest-based value creation in a regional context. Since this book is about the circular economy, I concentrate here on value creation based on valorisation of side streams and residues from forestry and forest-based industries. The empirical background for this chapter is a comparative analysis of three forest-based industry clusters in Norway: Forest Industry in Trøndelag, Treklyngen in Buskerud, and the Norwegian Wood Cluster in Hedmark and Oppland. The cases were studied by a mixed method approach, building on interviews, workshops and a comprehensive media analysis.
