dc.description.abstractThis report is one result of the initial, preparatory studies which are being done at NIFU within the framework of a new strategic research programme on “Profiling Output in Norwegian Research” (1998 - 2001). The programme is initiated to enhance information and knowledge on the output and effects of Norwegian research. The programme is financed by the Research Council of Norway.Together with a report to be published shortly on output profiles in the Norwegian research institute sector, this report provides part of a state-of-the-art assessment of the area of R&D output indicators, discussing i.a. the opportunities, challenges and problems raised by these kinds of output indicators and analyses.nb_NO
